State Bar President Christopher P. Twyman

Christopher P. Twyman was installed as the 63rd president of the State Bar of Georgia on June 7, 2025. This follows Twyman’s service as the State Bar’s president-elect, treasurer and secretary.

A native of Rome, Georgia, Chris returned home after law school and entered private practice. Chris currently serves as the managing partner of the law firm of Cox Byington Twyman LLP where he practices in the areas of commercial and general civil litigation, criminal defense and education law.

Chris received his Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University, where he majored in Government and minored in History in 1996. He obtained his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1999. While in law school, Chris served as Executive Chair on the University of Georgia Moot Court Board and argued at the American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy Competition in Boston, Massachusetts. He was also named to the Order of the Barristers.

Chris is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in the United States. Since 2021, he has been recognized as a Georgia Super Lawyer by Atlanta Magazine. Chris is also a Master in the Clark-Carley Inn of Court with the University of Georgia School of Law.

Chris has served as a member of the Executive Committee since 2022 and on the Board of Governors since 2017. He has served on several State Bar committees, including chairing a two-year study committee on professional liability insurance. Chris currently serves on the State Bar’s Disciplinary Rules and Procedures Committee, Insurance Committee, and the Bench and Bar Committee.

Chris is married to Tashia Twyman, and they have two children: Christa, a rising junior at Duke University, and Myles, a rising senior at Darlington School.
