Once you file a grievance, it will be reviewed by an attorney in the Office of the General Counsel to determine if the information provided is sufficient to demonstrate a violation of the Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct. If the Office of the General Counsel does not have jurisdiction or if there is insufficient evidence that the lawyer violated the Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct, the grievance will be dismissed. If the grievance demonstrates a possible violation of the Rules, the grievance and all accompanying documentation will be sent to the respondent lawyer for a response.
At the end of the screening process the Office of the General Counsel may dismiss grievances that do not present sufficient merit to proceed. Those that seem to involve a violation of Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct proceed to the next level of investigation with the State Disciplinary Board.
