Georgia legal community mourns loss of John ‘Sonny’ Morris

To the Editor:
On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I would like to express condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of longtime Atlanta attorney John G. “Sonny” Morris, co-founder and chairman emeritus of the Morris, Manning & Martin LLP law firm, on his passing at the age of 81.
A member of the Georgia Bar since 1969, Mr. Morris’ guidance was credited with growing Morris, Manning & Martin into one of the largest real estate practices in the United States during his half-century-long career, playing a pivotal role in shaping the legal and business landscapes of Atlanta. He was honored with numerous accolades, including the Emory University School of Law Distinguished Alumni Award in 2014 and the Daily Report’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.
John “Sonny” Morris’ distinguished career is an inspiration to all members of the State Bar of Georgia. We are appreciative of his many contributions to the practice of law in our state. He will be missed and fondly remembered.
