To the Editor:

On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I would like to express condolences to the family, colleagues and many friends of longtime Newnan attorney Michael E. “Mike” Sumner on his passing at the age of 67.

A member of the Georgia Bar since 1984, Mr. Sumner began his legal career in Newnan with the firm of Glover & Davis. In the early 1990s, he worked with Parker, Hudson, Rainer & Dobbs in Atlanta before opening his own law practice in 1996, which continues today as Sumner Meeker LLC in Newnan.

He also served his community in numerous capacities, including 16 years as an elected member of the Coweta County Board of Education and five years as the board’s chair. He was also a past president of the Newnan Rotary Club, the Newnan-Coweta Cancer Society and the Newnan-Coweta Heart Association.

Mike Sumner’s distinguished career of service is an inspiration to all members of the State Bar of Georgia. We are appreciative of his many contributions to the legal profession and justice system of our state. He will be missed and fondly remembered.

Sincerely,

Ivy N. Cadle
President, State Bar of Georgia
